City Council Meeting Agendas with Notes

Annotated Agenda for December 18, 2023

Voilà! Behold my 139th and final annotated agenda. Monday night's meeting is intended to avoid controversial topics, as it is the final meeting of the 2022-2023 term.  Of note is a budget amendment request to shift the payment schedule for the Main Street Reconstruction Project (Item #2), and  approval of a final plat for seven homes along Ashworth Drive.

Monday night's 7pm Council Meeting is about as administrative/non-controversial as they come!   It's a short agenda, and I'll be absent in order to attend an emergency management course over in Clinton; Council Member Harding will be presiding over the meeting as Mayor Pro-Tem.

Prior to the Council Meeting, our standing committees will hear a short follow-on brief on Youth Commission research, and an annual report from the Human Rights Commission, and finally Grow Cedar Valley will present their update as well.  That all starts at 6pm.

Monday night's council meeting agenda is only about half as long as usual, but it has two topics of significant public interest.   The first is the College Hill Vision Plan repeal (Item #2), which could realistically happen since five council members had voted on November 6th to put the override on the agenda.  The second big item is a controversial proposed plan for the Autumn Ridge subdivision (Item #15).   The developer is seeking approval to have smaller property lots in order to significantly increase the number of homes that can be built in that area.  On September 13th, the Planning

Monday night's meeting has only 25 total items; of special note is the council's consideration of a repeal of the College Hill Vision Plan, (Item 13); that discussion is bound to generate public interest and comment.  I also have the honor of swearing in our new K-9, Boona, at the start of the meeting (Item 2).   Many of the other items affect only small groups of residents or organizations, but feel free to take a look.

Tonight's regular council meeting at 7pm has a lot of administrative items, including the purchase and installation of a comprehensive financial software system for city government (item #18).   The council will also vote on the recommendation of the Finance Director to appoint Kim Kerr as the next City Clerk, when Jacque Danielsen retires in November.   Kim has been the Administrative Supervisor (basically in charge of the City Hall front office admin staff) and has been a great assistant to me during my time in office.

Annotated Agenda for 9/18/2023

This is a fairly light council meeting at 7pm, with only 27 items.   The only items that really affect the general public are Item #4 (the final reading on institutional exemptions for parking lot requirements downtown) and almost $2M in state & gaming grant funding requests the Council is being asked to approve for the new High School / Community natatorium (indoor pool facility).

Labor Day (I want to get outside edition):  Tuesday meeting is at 7pm.  Agenda not big.  North Cedar Stop Signs are #7.  St. Pat Parking is #8.   Other stuff too.

Community Development Committee at 6:15 has community-wide strategic plan update.   Watch on TV, YouTube, or just come to City Hall.  Informed & engaged citizens = Yay!

Enjoy the day!

Annotated Agenda for August 21, 2023

This Monday night's 7pm city council meeting is mostly routine.  Notably in Item #3, the City Council is being asked to consider changing the Downtown Character District zoning rules to grant exceptions if the applicant is an institutional use (like churches, in this case).   The council will also consider the four-way-stop at Lone Tree Road on its second of three required readings (Item 8).

Annotated Agenda for August 7, 2023

This 7pm meeting has a significant number of contract approvals and other important administrative items.  Of special interest to the public would be Four Way Stop Sign proposal in North Cedar (Item #37), as well as temporary downtown residential parking permits (Item #35) and a proposed $1500/yr increase in council pay (Item #10).  We'll also be discussing a development agreement with Ryan Companies in the Industrial Park (Item #3).
