City Council Meeting Agendas with Notes

Annotated Agenda for June 20, 2023

This council meeting has many administrative items on it, because we will not be having a "first Monday in July" meeting.  So we're front-loading in June.  Items of interest include our annual appropriations resolution (#18) and a proposal to increase council compensation from $7K to $12K annually (Item #47). It also includes an agreement for the city's use of the new Cedar Falls High School Pool (Item #35).

Annotated Agenda for May 1, 2023

During our Monday night meeting at 7pm, the City Council will have the opportunity to consider a property condemnation request (Item 2), a resubmitted estimate for the Northern Cedar Heights street reconstruction project (Item #3), and a Pride Month proclamation for June 2023 (Item #9) among other items that are routine or administrative in nature.

Annotated Agenda for April 17, 2023

The Big-Ticket Item for Monday night's 7pm regular meeting is the consideration of the City's FY 2024 budget for approval (Item 4).  The Council will also consider a $162K sale of land in the industrial park for a storage facility (Item 5).  Also up for consideration is a rezoning request for farmland in North Cedar for proposed new residential development (Item 9).  Most of the other items are fairly routine/administrative.

Annotated Agenda for 3/20/2023

The big items for Monday night are #2, #3 and #4, which pertain to zoning changes that the council sent to the P&Z commission for consideration.  Because P&Z did not agree with the proposed changes, the Council would need at least 5 votes to make them happen anyway.  It's a higher threshold than the usual 'simple majority' for most decisions that come before council.  These kinds of zoning changes have a considerable impact on the city's future development, as well as direct costs to developers.  For these reasons, I'm glad that such changes require a council supermajority f

Annotated Agenda for March 6, 2023

Our Regular Council Meeting on Monday night features some big-ticket items for approval, but none controversial or out of the ordinary.  I'll note that Item #21 is the contract approval for traffic signals to be placed at the intersection of Hudson Road and West Ridgeway, just north of Highway 20.  This corridor is seeing an increase in high-speed traffic so I'm very glad this tricky intersection will have some better controls to it.

Annotated Agenda for February 6, 2023

The main item for Monday night at 7pm is likely to be Item #11, which is an agreement proposed by Chief Bostwick for a terminal leave of absence, resignation as fire chief, and mutual release of legal claims.  I will save my comments and thoughts on this proposal for the meeting itself.

At 5:50, the FBO Standing Committee will meet to hear a presentation from Finance Director Jen Rodenbeck on the proposed FY24 Budget.

Annotated Agenda for January 3, 2023

Happy New Year, neighbors!   The first meeting of the year will on TUESDAY night (not Monday) since the 2nd is an observed holiday.  At the meeting, the council will vote on approval for the annual Capital Improvements Program (Item #2), and an addition to our industrial park (Items #4 and 5).    The council will also consider an override to a recent veto (Items #6 and 7).

Annotated Agenda for December 19, 2022

Monday night's council meeting at 7pm has all kinds of interesting things on it.  Check out my veto letter (rare!) in Item #3, and Item #24 and #25, which are big-ticket items for the Main Street Reconstruction Project and River Recreation Project.  Both of those projects have been in the works for years, and years, and it's time to finally get them approved and constructed.
