Listening and Leading with Intellectual Honesty

I love learning through lively, informed debate and discussion.  And over two decades, I've been part of very different cultures and worldviews (military, corporate, church, and university campus).  The result has been an open-mindedness, approachability, healthy skepticism of authority, and strongly inclusive spirit that I believe will make me an excellent representative for you on Cedar Falls City Council.

As your City Council At-Large rep, I'll be respectful and validate your opinions and viewpoints, even if we disagree (especially if we disagree!).  I'll gladly challenge my own assumptions, based on new data you provide.  I'll always appreciate the limits of my knowledge, and will be eager to learn; I'll always strive to be intellectually honest, because that's the foundation of wisdom.

That said, if you disagree with where I stand on the issues, feel free contact me.  I'd love to learn more about the topic from your point of view.   Even if you don't sway me, you'll help me be a much more effective leader -- because I'll be able to understand and internalize your concerns.

If this is the kind of thinking you'd like to have to have on city council, I hope you'll vote for me on November 7th.
