Today, the Courier released its information about funding for the City Council runoff race. I'm reporting my additional numbers here because I want you to have an accurate view of my campaign -- and this information is all supposed to be public and transparent anyway. I'm a visual guy, so here's my campaign's information in a table:
The red asterisk means this period hasn't yet been officially reported to the State of Iowa. I spent the bulk of my funds ($2506.33 of it) AFTER the filing date of November 25th. As mentioned in the Courier article, I'll be taking it up with our legislators to have the reporting date changed, so that the news media can report more accurate numbers. If the reporting end date were Wednesday before the election, with electronic submission of the report the Thursday before the election, that would still give media four days to report on it, prior to the Tuesday election.
This is a big deal -- because money fuels campaigns, and as voters we have a right to know where that money's coming from, and where it's going. I'll be pushing for this small but critical procedural change in 2018.
